A True Disciple

You come to me with a problem and say you want a solution,

But your feelings have already won, so you’re deaf to heavenly wisdom.

You listen to the one who says everything you want to hear,

But the one who speaks the truth is the one you fight out of fear.

They’re the ones you choose to hate because they show you where you’re flawed,

But it’s not really them you hate, the one you actually hate is God.

They’re the ones who trust in God and serve Him alone.

They’re the ones who take your beatings and still invite you to their home.

They’re the ones who speak with a God-given authority.

They’re the ones who give with God-given generosity.

They’re the ones who speak from scripture, knowing it’s the word of God,

And they’ll be the first to tell you every single one of their flaws.

You don’t want resolution, you want recognition,

So when you hear God’s word, you hear judgment and accusation.

If you truly want change, if you truly want redemption,

You have to learn to face your sin and recognize God as the solution.

When you start to follow God, your life falls into destruction.

That life was built on the world, but now God is your foundation.

Stay faithful and trust through trial and tribulation,

And you’ll understand what it means to receive the gift of salvation.

You hate them because you hate God and God lives within.

You hate them because God shows up and you can no longer hide your sin.

They speak as God commands them, knowing it’s going to hurt.

They know how you’re going to feel because they had to live it first.

A true disciple has already been burned, beaten, and broken.

A true disciple walks into the fire knowing God is the one who holds them.
