At the beginning of time, You created the universe.
You formed man from the dust and then gave him life.
But with that man, sin was born, and life became a curse.
The Devil went after Eve, not the man, but his wife.
Now, the only way back to You was if sin could be reversed.
We were debtors to sin and death was its price.
Our flesh became evil, and we breathed out lies.
We chased after fortune, never able to satisfy our eyes.
We sought after purpose by trying to be the best.
Even when doing so, meant causing someone else’s death.
We became a creation You wouldn’t recognize.
You knew we were doomed; we were creating our own demise.
We needed a savior, and You stepped in.
We needed a father, so You took us in.
We needed grace when we deserved none.
We cursed ourselves with death, so You gave us Your Son.
Our debt was ours to pay, but You showed us mercy.
We were thrown away by our own people, but You called us worthy.
We were destined for a life full of torment and pain.
But You gave us Your Spirit so we could dance in the rain.
You wanted Your children to come home, but we needed a way back.
Our lives were held at ransom, and death was the stack.
We couldn’t come home, it was too high a cost.
We couldn’t come home… until that day You carried the cross.
