“It takes a village to raise a child.”

I struggled with this phrase for a long time when I became a mom. I heard it from just about everyone I knew; and I understood that it meant it’s okay that I need help because I was never meant to do it all alone. What I struggled with, was who is supposed to be in that village?

Naturally, I assumed it would be my family. And in many cases, family makes the best village. If not family, then close friends, right? For me, that was not the case.

Through this journey of faith, I have found that God teaches and/or reveals things to me every day; it’s more a matter of if I’m willing to accept and recognize His presence throughout my life. In regard to the search for my village, He has used it to teach me many lessons, all the while, leading me to Him. I pray my path shortens your journey.

Every person in this world either carries the Spirit of truth or the spirit of error. If they have the Spirit of truth, they have been adopted, freed, as God’s children. If they have the spirit of error, they are still children, slaves, of the Devil.

No label will change that. Doesn’t matter if they’re family, friend, blood, or stranger.

So how can you tell the difference?

Those with the spirit of error:

• Live in fear of not having enough
  • Enough of life’s necessities (food/water, clothes, shelter, etc)
  • Enough money
  • Enough love
  • Enough recognition
• Live in sin
  • Lie
  • Cheat
  • Steal
  • Murder
  • Practice homosexuality
  • Boast
  • Indulge vanity and pride
  • Deny God
• Live in torment
  • Guilt
  • Shame
  • Hopelessness
  • Despair

Those with the Spirit of truth:

• Live each day like it could be the last
  • Don’t worry about food
  • Don’t worry about clothes
  • Don’t worry about money
  • Don’t care who does or doesn’t love them
  • Don’t care if they’re ever recognized for what they do
• Live in righteousness
  • Honest
  • Generous
  • Joyful
  • Peaceful
  • Helpful
  • Practice self-control
  • Give all glory and praise to God
• Live in peace
  • Guilt-free
  • Shameless
  • Hopeful
  • Blameless

Why is this distinction important?

As a parent, it is your job to teach your child how to get through life. If you surround yourself and, in turn, your child with those carrying the spirt of error… you’re not making your job easier, you’re making it harder on yourself.

Those with the spirit of error… won’t respect your boundaries.

Those with the spirit of error… won’t support your decisions.

Those with the spirit of error… will tell you they love you while they’re pulling the rug out from under you.

If you allow the spirit of error into your village, you set yourself and your child up for failure.

Put your faith and trust in God, the one True Living God… and He’ll build your village for you.

His village… will respect your boundaries.

His village… will support your decisions.

His village… will show you they love you while they continue fighting their fight with the Devil.

If you allow the Spirit of God to build your village, you set yourself and your child up for success.

1 John 3

1 John 4

“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already. They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them. We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. Galatians 5:16-24

John 8:31-47

We have one Father—even God.” Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and I am here. I came not of my own accord, but he sent me. Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word. You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me. Which one of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me? Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.””

John 15:18-27

“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. But all these things they will do to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have been guilty of sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin. Whoever hates me hates my Father also. If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin, but now they have seen and hated both me and my Father. But the word that is written in their Law must be fulfilled: ‘They hated me without a cause.’ But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.
