I thought I knew what it meant to surrender to God, but I’m learning that true surrender means: I knew nothing, I know nothing, and I will know nothing. True surrender means you literally give everything up to God. You trust no one, not even yourself. The only one you trust is God.

Psalm 118:8
“It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.”
Jeremiah 17:5-8
“Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD. For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited. Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.”
Micah 7:5
“Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom.”

At this point, I feel as though I’ve been given this lesson to learn…with every person in my life.
I’ve always believed in love, in mercy, in truth. I’ve always believed that people are inherently good.
…
But even Jesus didn’t claim to be good.
…
Matthew 19:16-17
“And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.”
…
Even Jesus…didn’t accept being called “good.”
…
I just found out that the last person I have left that I consider family, outside of the family God has given me…wasn’t who I thought they were… While I do have sorrow for this, it has brought me closer to God. It has showed me what His word has meant by only trusting Him, no man.
…
People…will always let you down. It’s inevitable. And I’m no different because I continue to fail in one way or another every single day.
And that’s what Jesus meant. We’re human, which means we’re imperfect. God is the only one who is perfect, the only one who is good, the only one who is just, the only one who is righteous. We just have to trust Him and love everyone we meet, treat them as we’d like to be treated. God will bring people into your life and He will take people out of it, and you may not always know why. Sometimes you’re the lesson for them; sometimes they’re the lesson for you. But you won’t always know, that’s only for Him.
True surrender… letting go of any and all pieces of yourself to put complete trust in God.
It’s a hard thing to do…
But it’s worth it.
Matthew 24:12-13
“And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.”
