What does that phrase mean? What is it to be like Christ? What is it to act like Christ?
As I’ve gone through life, I’ve been told time and time again to “be Christ-like” to those around me. Usually this phrase comes up when there’s an issue being confronted. But what does that mean? Does it mean shut up and just love them like I’ve been taught? Does it mean just take the beatings and the abuse because Christ took ours? Does it mean hide when what you have to face seems impossible?
…
Being like Christ doesn’t mean any of this. Even He said, “Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.” (Luke 12:51-53) Jesus also says, “If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin.” (John 15:22)
Proverbs 6:16-19
“These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.”
But wait, doesn’t “sowing discord” mean starting fights?
That depends…. Are you trying to help or hinder? Are you trying to build or break down? Are you “fighting” with truth and righteousness or mischief and vanity?
Matthew 22:36-40
“Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
Isaiah 59:1-4
“Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness. None calleth for justice, nor any pleadeth for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity.”
…
Not everyone will be welcomed in at His gates when the time is come; if that were the case, this life would be pointless.
…
So what does it mean to be Christ-like?
…
I know I believe at the very least… it’s doing everything humanly possibly to help one another find and stay on His path.
…
I don’t have all the answers, but I do know if you ask Him, He’ll tell you. And He’ll tell you the truth, no matter what.
