“Truth” is such a broad term. It encompasses so many different things in life. Why then, is it rarely told? In any category of life, the truth, at least the whole truth, is almost never told. Why? From a young age, we’re all taught that lying is bad. … Or are we? Yes, I’m sure we can all agree at some point in our life, we’ve heard, “Lying is bad.” But what is it we’re actually taught? We’re taught to keep secrets to mitigate others’ feelings or protect ourselves. We’re taught to conceal any form of “negative” expression to avoid confrontation with others. We’re taught to manipulate to get anywhere of significance in this life. … Are these not all one form or another of a lie? We learn through our experiences in this world, that the only way to make it, is to lie. One by one, we each fall to this path. Maybe you’re someone who always told the truth, but no one would ever believe you. Eventually, you get to the mindset of, “No one will believe me anyway, so what’s the point of even trying to tell the truth?” Or maybe you get caught in a situation between two people you hold dear, and the truth is detrimental to one or the other. Do you open your mouth, or do you keep quiet? One by one, little by little, we allow these lies, these weighted chains, to be thrown on our shoulders. Those chains become our own personal prison. Those chains turn into bars as we not only lie to others but lie to ourselves. “I don’t need help.” “I’m not enough.” “Something must be wrong with me.” Soon enough, you’ve closed the door and thrown away the key.
“The truth shall set you free.”
What then, is the truth?
The truth is actually quite simple. “The truth” is our God, Jesus Christ. He is the answer to everything, and He is always good; He is always right.
If the truth is so simple, what then, makes life so complicated? My answer to this, is trust. Do you trust yourself? Do you trust your friends? Do you trust your leaders? Do you trust your church? Do you trust your grocery stores? … Who or where do you place your trust? I’ve come to learn that where we place our trust is a direct reflection of where our faith lies. Which, in turn, is a direct reflection of the path of our lives.
Jesus is the key.
Jesus is the way.
Jesus is the TRUTH.
The question is, will you trust Him?
